NSDAR to Host Renita Menyhart, Writer of Army Stories and History

On July 17, at 2 p.m., Colonel Renita Menyhert, United States Army, Retired, will present the program, “One Soldier’s Journey into D-Day.” It is the story of Bob Wright who enlisted to serve as a medic during World War II. After jumping into Normandy on June 6, 1944, he happened upon a small French church in an obscure village where he treated German and American wounded for two nights and three days. Because of his compassion for both sides and his success in not losing a single life, Wright was awarded the Silver Star.

This event will be hosted by Bosque River Valley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The location for the program is fellowship hall of First Presbyterian in Clifton, on July 17 at 2 p.m. The public is invited. Col. Renita Menyhert, USA (ret) is a military feature writer and broadcaster who has provided military soldier stories for worldwide publications such as Soldier’s Magazine and the Armed Forces News Service. Col. Menyhert also served as a broadcast journalist for the Armed Forces Network both in the Far East and in Europe. She has covered everything from World War II to Vietnam to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan with an emphasis on soldier human interest.

Col. Menyhert has earned a total of 12 broadcast and journalism awards which include being recognized as the best feature writer in the Army Material Command for ten consecutive years, four first place awards in Department of the Army, and two first place awards in Department of Defense for broadcasting and print journalism.

Col. Menyhert is the author of five books: Ernie Pyle Was My Hero; Remember Pearl Harbor; Operation Vittles: Stories from the Berlin Airlift; The Latest Generation; and Army Life: Up Close and Personal.

Col. Menyhert currently lectures on subjects ranging from the Normandy Invasion to the Cold War and Army life in general.
