The Roost

Folks around Bosque County have probably heard of the River Street Roost florist in Meridian and have wondered why the name has changed and who the new owner is.

Let us introduce you to Lacey Coon. She is one of two owners of the newly relocated business now known as The Roost.

Coon has been in Bosque County for a few years now. She, and her now husband Chris, met during the COVID-19 pandemic and fell in love. Chris, a county extension agent for Bosque County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, already lived in Clifton. After they decided to begin their new life in Bosque County, she left her management position in the food industry, and the hunt for a new job began.

Chris heard River Street Roost was hiring and thought she would enjoy the florist industry. Coon met with Owners Drena Morgan and Lee Witz-Martinez, who decided to take a chance on her despite having very little experience in the industry.

“I had no idea I would love the florist industry the way that I do, but it quickly became a passion,” Coon said.

She worked for River Street Roost for about a year and a half before learning they had decided to sell the business. Coon and her husband began running numbers, discussing whether this was a good fit for them, and their next adventure began.

“The love I have for the community and the business was something I couldn’t pass up,” Coon said. “If I’m completely honest, when I started working for Drena and Lee, I never thought I would be where I am today. God blessed me with two of the most amazing women I have ever met, who never doubted my abilities, and always supported my growth within the business. I never would have imagined owning my own business, especially not at 24 years old. I am extremely blessed to have the support that I do and strive every day to carry on the values and the love that Drena and Lee put into this business.  They really took the time and effort to teach me and show me the art of the industry, and I’ll forever be grateful.”

Not long after she became shared owner with Drena Morgan the business moved to Main Street in Meridian and is now known as The Roost. Coon said they changed locations to be able to host more events, hold classes, and heighten walk-through traffic. Being in the middle of historic downtown was truly an honor and they are very grateful for the opportunity, Coon added.

When asked what her hopes and goals were for the business, Coon said, “I hope that the business continues to flourish and bring neighboring communities to Meridian to show everyone what we have to offer as a community. Acceptance and love are something that Drena and Lee always gave to everyone who entered the shop, there has always been a sense of family, and I will always strive to keep that alive.”

Most of their work is still in floral design, but with their new location they’ve been able to expand into a gift shop. Late September to mid-October they will be offering Meridian ISD spirit related merchandise. Apparel, decals, and car freshies are some of the many items they will have for immediate purchase.

Speaking of school spirit, Homecoming is right around the corner. The Roost will not only be able to provide mums and garters for Meridian, but they are also supplied and ready to help their neighboring communities such as Clifton, Cranfills Gap, Morgan, Iredell, and Walnut Springs. They will offer premade mums and garters for quick pick up but ask for custom orders to be placed five to ten days prior to Homecoming. They will be offering face painting for the Homecoming Parade and games for those who want to add an extra flare to their school spirit.

They have gone a step further and are ready to supply those wanting to make their own mum and garters. During business hours, they are willing to help make whatever anyone can envision.

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone for the continued support and love I have been shown,” Coon said. “It is truly an honor to be a part of such an amazing community. We want to give as much as we can to such an awesome community,” sheadded.
